Happy Holidays. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday. I came across this great article that I found helpful for that after Christmas gift exchange. Let's face it we all get that one gift or gifts that we would rather exchange for something a little more to our liking. So I hope this article will help make your gift exchanges and returns run smoothly......
Gift Returns New rules require new tactics.
Don't feel guilty about returning that singing mounted fish your cousin bought you. He might be returning your gift, too. About 40 percent of Americans take back at least one gift after the holidays, says the National Retail Federation.
If you find yourself in line to return a gift this season, you're apt to discover that store policies have become stricter. Restocking fees for opened boxes or missing packaging are increasingly common, and not just for electronics. For example, Sears now imposes a 15 percent restocking fee for some appliances, tools, and lawn and garden products.
Stores have also become more persnickety about receipts. Last summer, Target changed its policy to allow for two receipt less returns a year of items less than $20. Before that the threshold was $100.
Kmart, Lowe's, and Wal-Mart are among the retailers that now use computer systems to monitor how often customers return items without sales slips. If you bring back too many within a given period, the store might stop accepting them. Some retailers say they're trying to prevent returns of stolen goods.
HAPPY RETURNS
If returning a singing fish is essential to your sanity, follow our tips and the process should go swimmingly.
Check the policy. It's probably on the store's Web site. If not, call the customer-service line or the store. Note that some stores have more generous return policies for goods purchased at holiday time.
Handle with care. Lost tags, missing packaging, or damaged boxes make it less likely you'll get your due. Amazon.com says it won't accept returns of products missing the serial number or UPC square on the box. Best Buy and Circuit City charge a 15 percent restocking fee on some electronic items whether or not you've opened the box. But you should not have to pay a restocking fee if the item was defective when you unwrapped it.
Bring the receipt. Being able to present one makes it more likely that you'll get back the item's full value. Without a receipt, a retailer might credit you with the lowest recent price or simply deny your return altogether. Gift givers should try to include one whenever possible.
Go to the right place. If the item was purchased by mail order or on the Internet, make sure you send it to the address the retailer specifies. The retailer might also have a location near you that takes mail-order returns. Sears, for instance, accepts Lands' End returns at its stores. But Macy's and Kohl's, which sell online and in stores, don't accept returns by mail if the merchandise was purchased in a store.
Clear your good name. If your return is denied and you don't know why, you may have been incorrectly flagged by a store's computer for committing "return fraud." You might be able to correct the matter by e-mailing the Return Exchange, a company that monitors returns for retailers, at returnactivityreport@thereturnexchange.com.

So the holiday is nearing and if your like me your still trying to locate that perfect gift on a budget. While sweaters and socks are very nice, and always appreciated, you might just want to give gifts with a little more pizzazz this year. Giving gift that shows your love, friendship or appreciation is never the wrong gift and never goes out of style.

My thought for this year, give some items that you found interesting and would like to share with others. Here some great finds that I researched for my inner circle.
For my fashion conscious readers: The Nylon Book of Global Style.
Synopsis
Ask any designer, fashion editor, or art director where the hottest trends are coming from, and they'll tell you it's from the streets of certain cities. And if you ask them what magazine gives the best, most authoritative coverage of these outsider fashion incubators, chances are they'll say Nylon. Nylon here combines its street cred and international expertise (the magazine is read in major cities around the world, and has recently launched both Japanese and Australian editions) to reveal the iconic looks in the seven most fashion-forward cities today: London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Melbourne, Copenhagen and New York

Breaking Into Fashion..............
With this all star line up and the nature of the event I was surprisingly amazed that this forum was not filled to capacity, especially with all the A-town aspiring models, actors, photographers, stylist and so on. They surely did not know what vital information they missed out on. Threw topic of discussion I found the forum to be very informative and eye opening for any business minded individual. So if you were not in attendance because your desire is not for fashion, I found the information provided would help any entrepreneur stay ahead of their game.
Create Relationships: For all industry type individuals creating relationships with other knowledgeable industry folk will and can help you build a team and hopefully offer opportunity to open doors for yourself and others in your circle. If you’re a model looking to build your portfolio introduce yourself to a photographer or makeup artist that is also trying to build a name for them selves. Build a team, help each other. As Candice Woods put it, “Even Business Exchange”, bring something to the table.
Follow your dreams: Surround yourself with like minded individuals. If you’re working your way up in fashion design then hangout with fashion designers with your same interest in mind. Surround yourself with people that can take you to the level you desire or higher. Keep elevating yourself.
Find Direction: A simple tip given by Cotrice, Fashion Stylists was to get a notebook, list all the things you like and what you want to do in the industry. If it is acting list what types of rolls you would like to play. Research that area. Work on your ideas everyday add to that area and check off which ones you have completed. Set some goals for your ideas.
For more information or to sign up for updates visit the forum’s myspace page: www.myspace.com/breakingintofashion. Hopefully The Social Scene has enlightened and inspired all my fashionistas out there to attend the next seminar. I will also keep you posted on upcoming events of course.
Shouts out to ICON STYle for giving these designers some shine and the opportunity to share their work.
ICON STYLE is always on the look out for new designers. If you are a designer and wanting to participate in their next trunk show apply via website(http://www.iconstyleinc.com) or visit their my space page www.myspace.com/iconnstyleinc.

Mary J. Blige & Michael Jackson - “Just Fine”
I am so super amp’d off of Mary J. Blige new single “Just Fine”. I have been hearing the song in rotation for a couple of months now and I love hearing it get air play, but after seeing the video yesterday, I am really excited. This song and video makes you want to dance. It puts me a good mood. It is so FANTABLous. I guess it sums it up on where I am and a lot of you guys are in your life. I saw the video and had to keep going back to watch it. When I first saw the video I was like that reminds me Mike Jackson and low and behold go on You Tube and the have the making of video detailing how they used MJ’s video footage from over 20 years ago from “ Don’t Stop til Get Enough”
I just love the lyrics, check them and the video. I posted my fav part. This is def the Mary I enjoy listening to.
So I like what I see when I’m looking at me When I’m walking past the mirrorNo stress through the night, at a time in my lifeAin’t worried about if you feel itGot my head on straight, I got my mind rightI aint gonna let you kill itYou see I wouldn’t change my life

Okay now that I got that out of my system let’s chit chat about what’s been going down in the A.
I have to tell you guys about the newsest Midtown Hot spot The Mealting Pot, which had it’s grand opening on last WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2007. But being the Socialista that I am I go the opportunity to attend the Pre-Grand opening on Tuesday. If you don’t know about the Melting Pot franchises check their site out at http://www.meltingpot.com/. They also have several locations as we in the city like to say outside the perimeter, but the Midtown location was the ideal location for this interactive dining experience. Their niche is Fondue, where you can get a unique four course dining experience. There were so many options to choose I am just going to narrow down to the Socialista’s Top Fav’s. Let’s start with the cheese dips. I am not a big fan of cheese but I have got to tell ya, The Melting Pot won me over with this one.
*Spinach Artichoke Cheese Fondue
Fotina and Butterkaie Cheeses, spinach, artichoke hearts and garlic
*Mojo Style Shrimp
Caribbean seasoned
And now for the best part of the whole night, Yummy Yummy chocolates. This section had everyone at the event feeling love. I guess chocolate does that to you. I could not just choose one from this section.
Yin & Yang
Half dark chocolate and half white chocolate.
Chocolate S’mores
Milk Chocolate topped with marshmallow cream, flambéed and garnished with crushed graham crackers.
They also offer some great specialty drinks I suggest the Love Martini, it is a combination of Malibu rum, Peach Schnapps, cranberry juice and fresh strawberries.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY4pm-11pm (Full Dinner Service Only)11pm-midnight (Cheese and/or Chocolate Only Service
The next day was even more action packed. Me and El’ Presidente had slide on over to Shout to share a happy birthday dinner with my girlfriend Randy Pierre, The Budget Stylist, hit her up at TheBudgetStylist@gmail.com if you want to makeover your style today. We had so much fun here and the food was delicious. I know this is not a new spot, but you can’t really seem to go wrong with the dishes at this place.
We had to sing Happy Birthday and run because I had to be on the Social Scene for Sol Fusion’s 5th year Anniversary at Earthlink with special guest Bilal.
You say who? Bilal, You may not remember him but he had a few hits a couple of years ago.. Then he disappeared. From what I heard he hasn’t performed here in 5 years. But I have to let you guys know this is one performer you don’t want to miss, although I did not know a lot of his songs. I can say he gave it his all.
Did you know Bilal was nominated for a Grammy? He was nominated for his duet with Beyonce “Everything I Do”. Who knew he had a song with B?
Amongst the guest in attendance, Kenny Burns, Joi,Algebra , Jcarter, & acclaimed entertainment journalist PJ Jackson.
They even gave away free Rockport shoes to the first 250 guest.

21 November 2007
So now let’s get down to business. I hope everyone has big Thanksgiving plans. Atlanta is going to be super busy. I have already started celebrating since last weekend with family.
Most of my family came into town and we did our thing her e in Atlanta this year. I must say it was very entertaining. I got to reconnect with some family members that I have not had a chance to sit down and chat with for sometime. Since every one is in different places, being location or mindset it made catching up a delight. I got the chance to see those that had grown and those who have had to humble themselves because of other hardships. I truly love my family and I have come to realize that at the end of the day I have family. I don’t get to choose who they are and the ways are but, I have to accept them for all those reasons that they are the way are and enjoy my time with them. I was reading JET magazine and on the cover was Rev. Run and his daughters and inside the article was a statement that stood out with me. Rev Run said this “If you don’t make time for family then it won’t happen”. I understood this because some many times we are continually running around weather it is work, school or other activities that sometimes we just need to stop or make plans for a family dinner, trip or sit for coffee and spend time together. Not everyone is going to like each other’s thoughts or ideas, but being mindful for the purpose of doing things together and spending time should supplement for the dislike. But hey this is just my way of thinking and it did help me get through the weekend with a smile on my face.
